How the math works

Referral fee = price × referral %. Amazon fees = referral + FBA fulfillment + storage + inbound.

Net profit = price minus Amazon fees minus product cost. Margin = net profit ÷ price; ROI = net profit ÷ product cost.

Break-even price = the price at which net profit hits zero, given your referral % and fixed per-unit costs.

How Amazon FBA fees and profit work

Your take-home on an FBA sale is the selling price minus four things: the referral fee Amazon charges on every order, the FBA fulfillment fee for picking and shipping, monthly storage and inbound costs, and your own product cost (COGS). This calculator subtracts all of them so you see net profit, margin, ROI and break-even at a glance.

The referral fee is a percentage (about 8–17%, 15% in most categories). The FBA fulfillment fee is a fixed per-unit charge based on size and weight. Storage is billed per cubic foot and spikes in Q4, while inbound is what it costs to get units into Amazon's warehouses.

Margin is net profit over price; ROI is net profit over your product cost. A healthy FBA product generally clears a 20%+ margin so there is room to absorb advertising and returns.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the Amazon referral fee?

The referral fee is a percentage Amazon takes from each sale. It is 15% in most categories but ranges from about 8% to 17% depending on the category. Set the exact percentage for your product in the calculator.

What is the difference between the referral fee and the FBA fee?

The referral fee is Amazon's sales commission and applies to every order. The FBA fulfillment fee is a separate per-unit charge for Amazon picking, packing and shipping the item, and it depends on the product's size and weight.

How is net profit calculated for an FBA product?

Net profit is your selling price minus the referral fee, the FBA fulfillment fee, storage and inbound costs, and your product cost (COGS). Margin is net profit divided by price, and ROI is net profit divided by product cost.

What is break-even price?

It is the lowest price at which net profit is exactly zero, given your referral percentage and fixed per-unit costs. Price below it and you lose money on every sale.

Is this FBA calculator free?
