Amazon requires the main image background to be pure white — exactly RGB 255, 255, 255. We sample 200+ pixels from the corners and edges of your image to detect the actual background color.
Amazon requires a minimum of 1,000px on the longest side. We recommend 1,600px to enable the zoom feature. We measure your image's actual pixel dimensions.
Amazon requires your product to fill at least 85% of the image frame. We estimate fill ratio by analyzing which pixels belong to the background vs. the product.
Amazon accepts square (1:1) images and images where the longest side is no more than 1.33× the shortest side. Square is recommended for consistent display across devices.
Amazon product image requirements, explained
Amazon rejects or suppresses listings whose main image breaks its photo rules, and a non-compliant hero image can quietly cost you the Buy Box and search placement. This free checker analyzes your photo in the browser against the four rules Amazon enforces most strictly. Here is what each one means.
Pure white background
The main image must sit on a pure white background, exactly RGB 255, 255, 255, so it blends into Amazon's search and detail pages. Off-white, grey, or gradient backgrounds get flagged.
Resolution and zoom
Amazon requires at least 1,000px on the longest side, and 1,600px or larger unlocks the zoom feature shoppers rely on. Larger, sharper images convert better, so aim well above the minimum.
Product fills the frame
Your product should fill roughly 85% of the image's longest dimension. Too much empty space makes the thumbnail look small next to competitors.
Square aspect ratio
Amazon recommends a square 1:1 image. Square photos display consistently across thumbnails, the detail page, and mobile, with no awkward cropping.
What is not allowed
The main image must show only the product, with no text, logos, watermarks, props, or borders, and no background other than pure white. Save lifestyle scenes and infographics for your secondary images.

Frequently asked questions
What background color does Amazon require for the main image?
The main product image must have a pure white background, defined as RGB 255, 255, 255. Amazon uses this so products blend cleanly into its white search and detail pages. Off-white, grey, cream, or textured backgrounds risk being flagged or suppressed.
What image size and resolution does Amazon require?
Images must be at least 1,000 pixels on the longest side to be accepted. To enable Amazon's zoom feature — which meaningfully improves conversion — use at least 1,600 pixels on the longest side. The maximum is 10,000 pixels.
How much of the image should my product fill?
Amazon expects the product to fill roughly 85% of the image frame on its longest dimension. Filling the frame makes your thumbnail stand out in search results; leaving too much white space makes the product look small and reduces clicks.
Does Amazon require square images?
A square 1:1 aspect ratio is strongly recommended but not strictly mandatory. Square images render consistently across thumbnails, the detail page, and mobile devices. Non-square images may be cropped or letterboxed in ways you can't control.
What is not allowed on an Amazon main image?
The main image may show only the product itself. Text, logos, watermarks, promotional badges, borders, props, and additional objects are not permitted, and the background must be pure white. Lifestyle photos, infographics, and comparison charts belong in your secondary images.
Is this Amazon Image Checker free, and are my photos uploaded?
Yes, it is completely free with no signup required. All analysis runs locally in your browser using the canvas API — your images are never uploaded to a server, so your photos stay private.
